May 16-17, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day – includes discussion of the subpoena process with a virtual visit to a courtroom for a simulation of court testimony with a sitting judge.

A 2-day, twelve (12) hour course providing non-lawyers with an overview of the law and legal analysis of issues arising in divorce, modification, enforcement, guardianship, prenuptial/post-nuptial agreements, grandparent visitation, paternity/never married parents, child support collection and enforcement, etc. Includes a review of the common legal issues , statutes, and law in family court matters; timelines for the legal process; the basics of evidence and discovery; state and local court procedures in Missouri; and a discussion of how mediation, financial transactions; and mental health treatment/interventions interact with the legal and court process. The hours provided by this course will allow Mental Health Professionals to qualify for the St. Louis County Mediator and Parenting Coordinator lists. Also a great class for therapists who work with couples or individuals involved in court matters or those wishing to become acquainted and comfortable with court appearances and subpeonas.

Kevin Chafin is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years experience with the Family and Domestic Court systems and the Missouri Children’s Division. He provides mediation and counseling services and has done so for more than 15 years. He speaks frequently on co-parenting counseling, working with high conflict parents, and the relations between therapists and the court system

A Twelve hour course providing attorneys and legal professionals with twelve (12) hours training in family systems, family dynamics, and child development, including an overview of high conflict families. It provides legal professionals background and understanding of how separation and divorce impacts individuals, children and families so that mediators, parenting coordinators and attorneys are prepared to confront complicated emotions and relationships. The hours provided by this course will allow attorneys to meet 12 hours required to qualify for the St. Louis County Mediator and Parenting Coordinator lists.
